Residential yard wastes are collected weekly by the Town's crews. Tree limbs, cuttings, shrubbery and the like must first be cut and assembled so that they are easy to manage by a regular crew. Yard wastes must also be placed on the owner's property at the nearest corner or street. These materials are ground and used as mulch or taken to the York County Landfill. Lawn trimmings and hedge clippings are also generally collected on a weekly basis. Lawn trimmings and hedge clippings must be bagged and placed on the owners’ or tenants’ property.
From October through March, the Town collects unbagged leaves using a leaf machine. Please observe the following rules to ensure collection:
- Leaf piles should not have sticks or any other debris mixed in. These items can lodge in the tubing of the leaf machine causing tears and clogging which will damage the machine. These items should be removed while raking or blowing your leaves into the pile.
- When placing your leaves on the curb, do not pile them in the guttering of the street where rain water flows down the side of the road.
The Town does not collect yard debris, building materials or refuse from building operations or landscape contract work. All large accumulations of grass, shavings, or waste material of any kind resulting from building operations or landscape operations shall be removed by the contractor.
