RESIDENTIAL PLAN REVIEW REQUIREMENTS
HOME ADDITIONS, RENOVATIONS, AND DETACHED BUILDINGS This checklist is to assist you when applying for a permit to: Incomplete forms, inaccurate plans or details may result in the denial of an application and the return of the plans and applications for revision or additional information. GENERAL INFORMATION In addition to the Building Permit Application, construction documents must be provided by the permit applicant. The documents should be to scale, and as complete and accurate as possible. Two hard copy sets of construction drawings (no smaller than 11 inches by 17 inches) and one electronic copy (PDF format) of the documents including specifications and details must accompany your application and should include, as a minimum, the following: - A plat of the property showing setbacks.

Foundation plan depicting footing dimensions, and pier pad or slab dimensions. Drawing should identify thickened areas (slabs) and the type of foundation wall (if crawl space). -
Floor girder and joist layout to include lumber species, grade, sizes, and spans of floor structures (if crawl space). -
Front, rear, and side elevation drawing that depicts exterior finish, doors, windows, decks, patios, etc. -
Floor plan of each story with rooms (new and existing) labeled, room dimensions shown, window and door sizes and header information noted. -
Electrical plan showing location of new electrical outlets, lights, appliances, etc. All new and existing hard-wired smoke alarms shall be identified. -
Roof framing details that depict the size of ceiling joists and rafters, rafter or truss spans, use of LVL beams, type of roof sheathing, etc. If trusses are used, a copy of the truss design documents shall be provided. - Site plan that depicts lot lines, driveways, other structures, underground storage and/or septic tanks, electrical cables, gas piping, etc.

OWNER/BUILDER This form is provided to assist customers or homeowners who possess limited construction knowledge when applying for a residential construction permit for a proposed addition, alteration or accessory structure. Use of this form is limited to owners/builders who file a waiver to build the home themselves.
